LOS ANGELES – The Eagles’ classic single “Please Come Home for Christmas,” which continues to be one of the most popular and beloved songs of every winter holiday season, is now certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA.
“Please Come Home for Christmas” will also make its 12-inch debut on 180-gram ultra-clear vinyl, along with original B-side “Funky New Year,” on November 27, 48 years to the day after the holiday classic was originally released. The limited-edition single will be available exclusively at select independent music retailers as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday event.
In the fall of 1978, the Eagles were in Miami working on the follow-up to Hotel California (now the #3 best-selling album of all time, certified 28x Platinum) when Don Henley suggested covering Charles Brown’s “Please Come Home for Christmas,” a song he remembered from growing up in East Texas. The band recorded the song during those sessions and paired it with the Henley and Glenn Frey original “Funky New Year.”
“Please Come Home for Christmas” reached #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Nearly five decades later, the song remains a yuletide staple, reaching #24 last holiday season—its highest position since 1978—as new generations continue to embrace the recording during the Christmas season.
The band is still making history today with EAGLES - LIVE IN CONCERT AT SPHERE, the longest-running residency at the revolutionary venue. Since launching in September 2024, the run now includes 72 shows with performances continuing through January. The shows offer fans the ultimate connection to the band’s legendary catalog in an immersive experience that only Sphere can provide. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.
These shows utilize Sphere’s advanced technologies, including the world’s highest resolution LED display that wraps up, over and around the audience, creating a fully immersive visual environment. In the Fall of 1971, the EAGLES formed, pioneered, and personified a uniquely American musical style, blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities, and would go on to become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time. In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons. The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. This year, the band became the first to earn Quadruple Diamond certification from the RIAA for Their Greatest Hits 1971–1975, the best-selling album of all time in the U.S. At the same time, Hotel California, the third best-selling album of all time, was newly certified 28x Platinum. They earned six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.
