LOS ANGELES – Staind earned two new Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certifications today, reaching 7x platinum for 2001’s Break the Cycle and 8x platinum for the single “It’s Been Awhile.” The band accepted official plaques last night before going on stage to kick off their "Break The Cycle 25th Anniversary Tour" in Atlanta, GA.
The anniversary tour is proving to be the band's biggest and most successful US run ever, with the majority of total tickets already sold and over half the dates completely sold out or nearing capacity.
This live momentum is powered by a massive streaming surge driven by Gen Z, with streams from listeners under 28 up nearly 80% this year. That youth push recently propelled Staind past 12 million Spotify monthly listeners—an approximate 62% year-to-date increase, an all-time high for the band. Listeners are also digging deep into the catalog: non-singles from Break the Cycle—including deep cuts like "Warm Safe Place" and "Take It"—are trending organically, triggering daily streaming spikes of 200% to 500% alongside surges across their other albums.
The resurgence is reaching a global scale as well. "It's Been Awhile" is re-entering the Spotify Top 200 in multiple international markets, currently charting in the United States, New Zealand, and Canada.
Released in May 2001, Break the Cycle debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart and spent three consecutive weeks there. Recorded by founding members Aaron Lewis, Mike Mushok, Johnny April, and the late Jon Wysocki, the album featured the Top 10 hits “Fade” and “For You.” “It’s Been Awhile” crossed over to peak at #5 on the Hot 100 while spending 20 weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.
Formed in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1995, Staind has released eight studio albums and sold more than 15 million records worldwide. The band has scored seven #1 singles across active rock and alternative radio to become one the era’s most commercially successful groups.
